Bird Watching Trips to Kenya

Kenya has one of the richest avifauna in Africa with an approximate 1100 bird species on record. At least 8 (eight) of these are national endemics. Around 170 species of Kenya’s birds species are Palearctic migrants (11 species of them with a local breeding population too), mainly from Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Siberia. Another 60 species migrate regularly within the Afro-tropics or from Madagascar. Some 335 species are found in forest; 230 species are entirely forest dependent.
The major attraction for these species is majorly the diverse bio-diversity Kenya offers by being straddled over the Equator. These ecosystems range from:
· Tropical rain forest

· Coastal forest,

· Montane forest (approx 8,000-10,000 feet above Sea Level),

· The scrubs and grasslands to semi-arid areas.

· Lake Regions

It is vital to note that Kenya is ranked second after Zaire as far as habitat diversity is concerned though four times bigger.
